She qualified for the ITF event in January 2009, in Boca Raton, Florida, where she lost to Heidi El Tabakh.

Tomljanovic won her first ITF doubles trophy, on 10 May 2009 in Zagreb partnering with Croatian player Petra Martić.

She was defeated in the 2nd round by Madison Keys. Ranked 67 at the Australian Open 2014, Tomljanović defeated Tadeja Majerič in the 1st round. Besides, she lost to 13th-seed player Sloane Stephens in the 2nd round.

Tomljanović reached the third round by defeating Kristina Mladenovic at the Sony Open 2014 and 30th seed Garbiñe Muguruza.

She scored the largest win of her career, defeating world No. 1 former and sixth seed, Jelena Jankovic at the Brisbane International 2015.

At the French Open 2015, she lost in the 2nd round to 11th seed Angelique Kerber.

At the Australian Open 2016, she was defeated in the 1st round by Kateryna Bondarenko

Tomljanović lost in the first round receiving a wildcard to play at the Bol Open 2017 to eighth seed Maria Sakkari.
